These bearded Russian celebrities all lived in the same general area around Hay Market at some point during their lives. Rasputin, a peasant mystic who grew more powerful than the Tsar; Lenin, a young socialist with grand plans in the 1890s; the writer Dostoyevsky whose Crime and Punishment tops any list of world’s greatest literature. Stroll between their addresses learning about their lives and taking in the atmosphere of the Hay Market, the liveliest of the historical neighbourhoods of St Petersburg. Possible visit to genuine Lenin’s apartment, a (sporadically) functioning off-beat museum. The walk can be customised to focus on any one of these characters in greater detail.
